Karelia Suite -- Jean Sibelius
Piano Concerto No. 1 in G minor -- Felix Mendelssohn
Symphony No.8 -- Antonin Dvorak
The Season begins with wonderful staples of orchestral music. The folk-based intensity of Finland’s Sibelius’ Karelia is matched by the Czech elements of Dvorak’s Symphony No.8. Sandwiched in between is music from the centre of Western music. Returning to the place of her youth is Pauline Martin who has made her career south of the border. She will play music of the man who was called the Mozart of the 19th Century, Felix Mendelssohn.

Bach - Harpsichord Concerto in D minor BWV 1052
Brandenburg Concerto No.6
It is hard to imagine a better setting for harpsichord than the newly renovated Division Street United Stage. We welcome Borys Medicky who presides over an early music series in Ontario and frequents the stage with the finest baroque players in the country. He is joined by our GBS strings in an afternoon of Bach. Of special note is the 6th Brandenburg Concerto for 2 solo violas with our very own Elspeth and Paul.
A Christmas concert not to be missed, with special guests the Bells of the Bruce hand bell choir.
Exuberance Ronald Royer
World Premiere
Variations on a Rococo Theme Tchaikovsky
The Glory of Christmas Douglas E. Wagner/arr. Brent Adams
Our Christmas event offers the opportunity to meld all sorts of styles and people into one joyous occasion. How will we put together the first movement of Dvorak’s Cello Concerto with a wonderful Hand Bell Choir and music from the Pines of Rome? It is an eclectic mix that reminds one of the variety of gifts that came from the Magi, so naturally one of our sing-alongs will be ‘We Three Kings’. Sebastian Ostertag grew up in the GBS. He returns to his orchestra mates as our soloist just as his career is being launched.

Concerto for Violin, Piano and String Quartet -- Ernest Chausson
Symphony No. 8 -- Beethoven
This program is a contrast of styles. The Wagner/Franck influenced composer, Ernest Chausson brings you an expansive, warm and very romantic concerto. A small group of instruments will give you a ‘really big’ sound. The difference comes in the second half of the program when Beethoven surprises you with the full orchestra in the 8th Symphony. He is light hearted and humourous in a classical style. It is a particular pleasure to welcome Renee Kruisselbrink who comes back to her Tara home while pursuing graduate studies. She is introduced for the first time to the young Canadian virtuoso Katya Poplyansky who has called Winnipeg and Toronto home but is pursuing studies south of the border.
