Owen Sound Music for Youth

StartFragment

Owen Sound Music For Youth is very excited for our 2018 Season. We would like to announce our new conductor, Bill Legate. Bill has been a part of music in Grey County for more than 40 years. He attended OSCVI where he performed in orchestras under Paul Bartlett with support of the late Eduard Bartlett, maker of the violin Bill plays to this day. He was a founding member of the Georgian Bay Youth Orchestra in the early 1980s. He attended Wilfrid Laurier University earning an Honours Music Education degree. Upon receipt of his teaching degree, he returned to Grey County where he has taught music for 21 years, at both Osprey Central where he started a string program, and at Beavercrest Community School where he co-created the Markdale Arts For Youth program in 2006 which he continues to conduct. He was awarded the Prime Minister’s Award for Teaching Excellence in 2013, and the Bluewater District School Board Award of Excellence in 2008. Bill is thrilled to be returning to his roots as a conductor and mentor for our 2018-2019 season.

Owen Sound Music For Youth is preparing pieces for a grand joint concert with the Georgian Bay Symphony on Saturday December the 8th. We will delight audiences with an orchestral medley of the Sound of Music followed by a ruckus a-tonal surprise.

We hope to see you at one of our concerts this season.
