Congratulations to our own Greg Galoska, violin.
Greg Galoska, one of the first violinists with the Georgian Bay Symphony, has headed back to school! This September, he returned to his alma mater, Wilfrid Laurier University, to begin a two-year course with the goal of becoming a Suzuki Certified teacher. The course is administered by the Suzuki String School of Guelph, and over the course of his studies, Greg will work through the Suzuki repertoire from beginner level through Book 8.
Greg has been teaching violin locally for a few years, but saw this program as an opportunity to further develop his skills as a teacher and bring new ideas to his students. While the Suzuki method books are already a tool that he employs in his lessons, learning the philosophy and approach behind the method is something that particularly excites him. He looks forward to incorporating what he learns into his teaching and continuing to build his studio in the Owen Sound area.
Greg’s connection to the Suzuki method goes back much further than his current studies. Growing up, he was first handed a violin by Joan Skelton, former cellist of the Georgian Bay Symphony, and went on to continue his studies with Bruce Skelton, former Concertmaster of the GBS. Both taught the Suzuki method to their students, hosted playing parties, and organized wonderful summer camps. Greg has many fond memories of making music together in that capacity, and is excited to carry some of that same spirit into his own teaching.
Keep an eye out for Greg amidst the first violins throughout this season at the Georgian Bay Symphony!
