Welcome Laura Kuri our new Principal Trumpet

Named one of CBC’s "30 under 30 classical Canadian musicians" in 2026, Laura Kuri is an emerging trumpet player based in the Greater Toronto Area. She completed both her Bachelor of Music and Artist Diploma at The Glenn Gould School, studying under Steven Woomert, Principal Trumpet of the TSO and Andrew McCandless, former Principal Trumpet of the TSO. In 2022, Laura became the first trumpet player in the school’s history to reach the finals of the Corcoran Concerto Competition with Tomasi’s Trumpet Concerto. She has appeared as a soloist with the Kitchener-Waterloo Chamber Orchestra and performed with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, National Arts Centre Orchestra, National Academy Orchestra of Canada (2026), Niagara Symphony Orchestra, National Youth Orchestra of Canada (2021), Etobicoke Philharmonic Orchestra, and Brantford Symphony Orchestra.
In addition to classical music, she grew up performing cultural Slovenian music with her father’s Slovenian band in the Canadian-Slovenian community. Outside of trumpeting, Laura enjoys baking, skiing, and travelling, especially to Slovenia to stay connected to her heritage.
